Using the information provided as you scroll overt the heart structures to complete the following table either on paper or on your blog:

Heart Anatomy Structures

LEFT ATRIUM

LEFT VENTRICLE

RIGHT ATRIUM

RIGHT VENTRICLE

PULMONARY ARTERY

AORTA

SUPERIOR VENA CAVA

INFERIOR VENA CAVA

ATRIOVENTRICULAR VALVES (Mitral & Tricuspid)

You will have to look up the structure and functions of the Chordae Tendinae elsewhere...

Now find a good heart diagram with all of the above structures labelled and post it to your blog.

Using the following link, describe the structure and function of the CORONARY ARTERIES AND VEINS.  What are they and what do they do?

Class blog links

I have started a list of our blogs on the athletics wiki that I will link here:

HK COOP BLOGS

Now you can easily find and read each others posts.  If there are any mistakes you can blame Gurkirat and Lavpreet:)

I have also added a Human Kinetics Calendar to that link that I will keep updated with our field trip dates, work experience, etc.  Check it out!

Here is link to the online tech form - please discuss with your parents your use of a gmail account and public blogging platform.  Note that you can make your blog private if you or your parents are uncomfortable with using a public forum to post your work and progress.

Biology 12

Biology 12 is an amazing course!

This semester we will be learning about the structures and functions of the human body -
  • digestive system
  • circulatory system
  • respiratory system
  • nervous system & brain
  • urinary system
  • reproduction
In order to understand how each of the body systems work, we will be learning about how cells function (protein synthesis & transport), how cells are structured and the structure and role of DNA in our bodies.

We will be using our blogs to document lots of our learning - doing lots of hands on project work, collaborating as groups & the best of all - dissections!

Why are we blogging?

You are creating a blog in this class for a few reasons.  We can use our blogs as an online portfolio of assignments, a way to track your progress throughout the semester, a place to post pictures, links, video and resources about the topics we are learning about, and online collaboration between students in the class.  I want you to follow each other and read other peoples posts in the class.

Many of you have a blog already, but if not, to get started you need a gmail account.  Along the top bar, under MORE, you will find Blogger, where you can easily start your new blog using your gmail account as a login.

Add this blog (phillipshkcoop.blogspot.com) to your reading list so that you can easily see any of my posts.  Also, add a few classmates to your reading list so that their blog posts become part of your reading list.

Come and tell me your URL so that I can find your blog and see your posts.

My email address is: phillips_k@surreyschools.ca

Once your blog is set up & you have given me your URL I would like you to make your first HK coop post -
Since we are going to be a close knit community within the coop, being together 3 blocks per day I would like you to write a post about you...
You post about whatever you want - this can be your guide if you like, but feel free to get creative...

Why did you take the co-op?
What are your plans for next year?
What activities do you like to do outside of school?
Have you done any fitness activities over the summer?
What are your fitness goals for the semester?
Add any pictures/you tube links/etc., that help you show what you like and who you are.
What is important to you & helps to define who you are?

After you have posted, add some of our classmates to your reading list, read their posts and make a comment.

Remember this is a public forum & a chance for you to create a positive digital footprint - I am hoping that your parents become involved in looking at your blog a few times to see what you are up to in our Coop.

Happy blogging!

Welcome to Human Kinetics!

Welcome to the new Human Kinetics Coop at Sullivan!

Over the semester, we are going to explore topics related to physical fitness, training principles & health.  We are going to learn about the effect that exercise has on different body systems, & put those into practise while improving our fitness in Super Fit & Exercise Science.  Be ready to be curious, ask questions, push yourself out of your comfort zone and explore your potential.
I'm so excited for an excellent semester together!

Courses:

Period 2 - English 12 - Mrs. Khrod (P9)

Period 3 - Biology 12 - Phillips (P9)
Period 4 - Exercise Science 12 - Phillips (P9/gym)
Period 5 - Super Fit 12 - Phillips (gym)

Work Experience 12 (2 weeks - start of December)
Our class time and gym times are flexible throughout the day - which allows for great opportunity for field trips during the semester.  Being active in the community is an important part of the Co-op, between work experience placements and participation in field trip opportunities.

Media release and field trip forms will be coming out soon to be signed and returned by your parents.
